Presenting Edgar Award-winning editor Otto Penzler's latest anthology, The Big Book of Sherlock Holmes Stories, the largest collection of Sherlockian tales ever assembled—now in a deluxe hardcover edition, perfect for the collector and gift markets.

Arguably no other character in history has been so enduringly popular as Sherlock Holmes. From his first appearance, in Arthur Conan Doyle's 1887 novella A Study in Scarlet, readers have loved reading about him—and writers have loved writing about him. Here, Otto Penzler collects 83 wonderful stories about Holmes and Dr. John Watson, the majority of which will be new to readers. Among these pages are tales by acclaimed Sherlockians Leslie S. Klinger, Laurie R. King, Lyndsay Faye and Daniel Stashower; pastiches by literary luminaries both classic (Kenneth Millar, P. G. Wodehouse, Dorothy B. Hughes) and current (Anne Perry, Stephen King, Neil Gaiman); and parodies by Conan Doyle's contemporaries James M. Barrie, O. Henry, and August Derleth.

Lots of Fun, Especially if You Already Know the Original Holmes Stories!

Probably everybody has heard of Sherlock Holmes, but if you haven't read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories, I recommend you read them before picking up this anthology. You don't have to, these are mysteries to read on their own. But they will give you much more pleasure if you already know the characters and motifs of the original Holmes and Watson.

Book arrived in excellent and new condition as described. The collection of short stories ranged from good to excellent pending on the authors. Some were written by known writers, while others were new to me. I enjoyed reading stories by unknown authors, as it added unique flavor and was somewhat made more mysterious as we couldn't predict what the writer would have the characters do. Naturally, with known writers or having knowledge of their styles made some more predictable. Some stories , but fortunately not many, were not worth printing...but we have to keep in mind of its source being that of pulp magazines....meaning that variations in quality of its stories should and would be expected.

Sherlock Holmes through the eyes of the masters. What could be better than to have Dr. Watson come to your home and read it to you with a fireplace DVD on the flat screen and smoothies in each hand.

A fascinating collection of 82 stories, 783 pages, based, one way and another, on the legendary Holmes. Includes tales by O. Henry, P. G. Wodehouse, Kingsley Amis, Stephen King, Laurie King, many others, some superb, some of historical value only, all of interest; a very rewarding anthology.

Great book for a Sherlock fan.

Bought the Kindle version because the book was too big. I enjoyed it from cover to back. Be prepared, this book will take forever to finish, there are that many good stories in it.

Recommended for all Sherlock Holmes fans!

Love this book! I started with the Stephen King SH story and then moved to the one by P.G. Wodehouse. How fun to read other authors' take on the world's greatest detective. Recommended for all Sherlock Holmes fans!

Normally I don't like Sherlock knock-offs but some of these were excellent and others (parodies) were hilarious. I was thoroughly pleased to have added this to my collection.
