The picture does no justice. I really like this product and have uploaded 2 pictures to show what it really looks like. It has that new book smell, thin pages, and it feels nice.

Remember to look closely at the cover of all these "complete" Sherlock Holmes books. With the wonders of capitalistically fueled competition, each edition of all 4 novels and 56 short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is beginning to look more and more similar. Not all are created quite as equal as one would think, however. Read on to find out more.

I absolutely love this. The design and binding are of excellent quality and the silk bookmark inside is so useful! I've had this for ages and it's holding up really well. My favorite book of all time, I re-read it all the time and I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

Great for all ages

I recall loving these books as a kid, but could hardly remember any of the actual cases and story lines. It has been wonderful to revisit all of these wonderful stories again. Come on....who doesn't like Sherlock? 🙂

The Original, The Greatest!

This is the original private detective, and still the greatest. It holds up right along side modern police procedurals, all of which owe Sherlock a debt. Recent re-iterations (Jonny Lee Miller on "Elementary," and Benedict Cumberbatch on the British "Sherlock Holmes" are proof that Conan Doyle's creation not only stands the test of time, but is able to be adapted to modern times with no loss of its original greatness. I'm so glad that this inexpensive Kindle edition is available - everyone in the English-speaking world should be exposed to the fabulous Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street, and his trusty sidekick Dr. John Watson.

I just bought the Kindle version of this book. I have a couple of other versions already (that I can now expunge forever), but they are all US versions. Many people may not realize that the manuscripts were altered when they were published in the US. For instance, The Reigate Squires became The Reigate Puzzle. The rival stables in Silver Blaze changed from Capleton to Mapleton (goodness only knows why). And some entire passages were omitted. For example, in the Yellow Face, there is a whole passage where Holmes talks about the putting of sham flies into the sham amber of pipes that is completely missing from US editions. So far I have also not come across any of the egregious typos that appear in other Kindle editions of Holmes. There are no illustrations, as another reviewer has pointed out, but as I already own an excellent two volume annotated hardcover set by William S. Baring-Gould, that does not bother me. I just wanted this to read while traveling.

Elementary, my dear reader!

Each mystery is unique and exciting to read. We are always the Watson in the story: waiting for the brilliant Holmes to fill us in on the whys and who. For mysteries, these are uncharacteristically well written and give an excellent picture of Victorian times. Though the volume is immense (over 1000 pages), it was missing six stories, so I had to resort to a "real book" rather than my kindle edition to read all of Doyle's masterpieces. If you enjoy the PBS Sherlock Holmes series, these story details are lurking ever in the background and certainly enhance the viewing.
